A Happy Graduation Card, a Haiku*, and Neil Gaiman’s Commencement Speech

To all 2021 high school graduates:

College is the start.

Before you know it, you’ll be

Twenty-one years old.

2025

Correct year that you can vote?

So much power then!

Reading and writing

Can grow/harness that power.

The world needs your thoughts!

We need to hear you.

What happens when we listen?

More kindness, saving lives?

Happy Graduation!

I send congrats in haiku

Grow now, change our world.

–Debbie Merion

A helpful and inspiring commencement speech from author Neil Gaiman:

*Read more about haiku in my writing mentor Natalie Goldberg’s new book:  Three Simple Lines. (Natalie also mentions me in this book.)
