For two decades, Essay Coaching has helped high school students create successful college application essays. This includes Common App essays and school-specific supplemental essays.
We work one-to-one with students, helping them capture what every admissions officer wants to know:
What you care about, and what you’ve done about it.
Are you a student who needs help determining your best topic? Could you use a critical eye for a rough draft—or even a polished one? We meet you where you are, offering both practical tips and a friendly ear to help guide your work from initial idea to final draft.
Students who complete our sessions have at least one essay ready to submit. They also gain writing skills that help them succeed in college and beyond.

Patient and Proactive? 8-Session Package
Designed for students who are just getting started, this package provides expert insight, strategies and guidance for beginning—and completing—a successful Common App essay. We start with choosing a topic, then shift into writing initial and revised drafts. Then, we edit to perfection. In later sessions, students receive help with topics, structure and feedback for one or more supplemental essays.

Busy and Persistent: 5-Session Package
This package is best for someone who doesn’t yet have a first draft on their Common App essay. Students receive the same guidance as students who receive the 8-session package: They learn how to pick a topic, write, and edit their Common App essay. Ideally, they also get started on a supplemental essay or two.

Independent and Responsive: 3-Session Package
This package is for a student who has a draft of their essay and wants to make sure that they have selected their best topic and produce compelling and memorable writing. We will give you feedback on your topic, and suggestions for editing. At the second meeting, we will review the edits, with suggestions to add detail and focus. Depending on the shape of the initial essay, there could be time to polish more than one essay during the three meetings.

One session ASAP, please!
Single-session meetings are for students who have strong drafts and are ready for a fresh set of expert eyes. With the admissions officer’s perspective in mind, we provide individualized feedback and suggestions, including how and where to add detail and reflection to show a student’s strengths. Some students arrange for a second single session for a final proof and polish before submitting their essay. Sessions may be arranged as Zoom meetings or as asynchronous feedback using Google Docs.
